In 1956 Well known American husband and wife architect and design team Charles and Ray Eames decided to design and build a comfortable lounge chair for their friend and famous movie director Billy Wilder. This chair, produced by Herman Miller, and to be called the 670 (lounge chair) and 671 (ottoman) was available to the public, and, although expensive soon became a hit with professional and wealthy people across the U.S.A. It was also simultaneously produced in Europe by Vitra, and in the U.K. by I.C.F. and Hille.
A stunning combination of leather and rosewood veneers, this was a magnificent contribution to the prestigious history books of classic designer furniture pieces. Its seat, backrest shells and armrests are a work of art, produced in smooth curved plywood, finished with a hardwood veneer. There is a die cast aluminium frame on shock mounts for flexible movement, a five-arm swivel function base and handy removable upholstery, with thick sumptuous leather covers. The Eames Ottoman matches its counterpart meticulously as one would expect, in both shape and size. As with all faithful reproductions of classic designer furniture, there is mark of authenticity, indicating that an authorised manufacturer has produced each piece and is legitimately allowed to create and call the chairs they produce an 'Eames'.
